Karma Kraft was a digital fabric printing company founded by Scott Jeffreys and Susan Lu. These co-founders used their strong textile design backgrounds to put up the budding company. The company was based in Raleigh, North Carolina but their products were being manufactured in Hangzhou, China. They specialized in printing personalized fabric but additionally offered cut and sew services in their website.
Unfortunately the Karma Kraft website (karmakraft.com) is already offline since a couple of years so customers have to look for alternatives like the custom fabric section of Zazzle. There you can find 7 fabric types like Combed Cotton, Pima Cotton, Polyester Poplin, Natural Linen and more fabrics for quilting, crafts, apparel and home décor.
The prices for custom fabrics at Zazzle range from $22.95 to $59.90 and their fabrics can be bought by the yard with 54″ width to 60″ width. Another big advantage is their generous return policy: if you are not satisfied for any reason with the final product, you may return your purchase for a replacement or refund within 30 days of receipt.
Karma Kraft Printing Method
Unlike the other fabric printing companies out there, Karma Kraft uses a unique method of printing by using reactive dyes and disperse dyes instead of the usual textile pigments. As a result, the colors printed in the fabric are more vivid and the fabric itself is also softer. The website completely explains what your fabric goes through during the process. You will be able to see a step-by-step process on how your fabric is and will be treated.
To start with, you need to upload your personal design or chosen design on the site. Unfortunately, they do not have DIY software or a design studio where you can create the designs yourself so you would have to find your own resources to create the design. You can also use a photograph or any other image from your computer. Some of the fabric options displayed on the site include Cotton, Polyester Satin, Jersey Knit and different kinds of Silk. You can order by square yard or by linear yard and prices start at $28. If you want a fabric that is not currently listed on the site, you can email them for inquiry.
They have a variety of products available for their cut and sew services. They claim to be able to print on virtually any kind of product and fabric. Some of the options listed in the site (most popular ones) include pillows, bedsheets, curtains, table cloths, bags and purses, scarves, walls and even surfboards. If you have a product in mind that is not currently listed in the site, you can inform them through email about it. Prices of these custom-made items will vary depending on the complexity of the design and the product.
They have a standard base shipping fee of $12 under 1 pound. Orders over 1 pound will be subject to additional charge ($10 for the 2nd pound and $5 per additional pound). They also offer International shipping to almost anywhere in the world. Customers are advised to order ahead because their current turnaround time is approximately one month. Unfortunately, no return policies are displayed online but you can certainly contact them for inquiry on this.
Karma Kraft provides quality custom fabric at a very reasonable price. However, their website does need some major improvements. Having a design tool/studio online will make the experience more engaging. Additionally, the site also lacks in terms of visual representation of the customized image and order.
Alternatives to Karma Kraft
Spoonflower – about $18 – $38 per yard
Fabric On Demand – about $16.25 – $37 per yard
I want to print my designs on silk scarves, but I need to know if your silk is finished on the edges after it has been printed.
Thanks
Karma Kraft seems to have disappeared? I emailed them a couple of times a little while ago and they said they were restructuring but now the site seems to have vanished without a trace. I’m very disappointed as I was keen to try them. Any ideas as to whether there might be a resurrection or if they have disappeared for good?
I wonder the same thing. The URL redirects to an Asian site.
Another great option for custom fabric printing is WeaveUp based in Durham, NC. You can either shop from the vast design library or upload your own pattern. The best part is that they offer color/repeat/scale customization tools to ensure that you get the perfect fabric for your own needs!!
